Rachel Evans – Basketmaker - Staffordshire Moorlands
Rachel’s early career in nature conservation and love for the outdoors led her to use wild materials to make simple baskets. As a full-time basketmaker, she immerses herself in the growing and harvesting cycle of willow, creating functional and sturdy baskets like underfoot log baskets, chunky frame baskets, backpacks, and creels.
Rachel specialises in making baskets using split wood from native trees such as hazel, oak, ash, and chestnut. These are processes and skills that are recorded as Endangered on the Heritage Crafts Association Red List of Endangered Crafts in the UK.
Further information is on the introduction sheet.
