Individualism and Identity Project
This is a selection of images from a project that I produced while at the Polytechnic of Central London in 1982.
The project was based in a large comprehensive school in Essex (I was an ex-pupil) over a period of 4 weeks and explored how people dressed either conforming to the school rules or to fit in with their own peer groups.
Students in the first and second years were expected to wear school uniform although it was not compulsory, while third to fifth years were encouraged to wear the uniform, they could wear their own clothes within certain guidelines.
Please bear in mind that these images are not commenting on the school or students but are a personal observation.
